Let’s be honest: if a question can be answered by a quick copy-paste into an AI chatbot, it probably isn't testing real learning. Aligned with the theme High-tech, Higher Humanity, this workshop is a fun, hands-on space for practicing teachers to move beyond memorization exams and dive into high-level assessment design.
We will look at how to use generative AI as a helpful co-pilot to quickly brainstorm test scenarios and tricky choices (High-tech). With the tedious drafting out of the way, we will spend our energy on the best part of teaching: re-engineering our Tables of Specifications (TOS) for deep critical thinking and crafting meaningful, real-world test questions that reflect our students' actual lives and human experiences (Higher Humanity).
Value to Teachers: You will walk away with a fresh, sustainable strategy for writing exams without losing your mind or your weekends. You'll get simple AI prompt tricks to speed up your workflow, alongside practical design frameworks to build authentic, high-level tests that celebrate real student thinking.
At the end of the workshop, the participants will (or will be able to):
Refine traditional Tables of Specifications (TOS) to intentionally prioritize higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) that go way beyond basic information recall;
Incorporate generative AI tools ethically as a friendly assistant to help brainstorm, and structure scenario-based test item contexts;
Design context-rich, authentic test items that keep assessments meaningful in a tech-heavy world and center on genuine student critical thinking.
