Did you know that teachers need to be skilled at the art of questioning if they hope to develop higher order thinking skills in their students? Did you also know that effective questioning isn't so much about the level of thinking of your questions, as it is about what you do after the students give you the answer? In this half-day online session, participants will explore why questioning matters and how to design, plan, and implement question sequences that advance student learning. They will also discuss strategies to build a classroom culture where students themselves become skilled questioners.
At the end of the workshop, the participants will be able to:
Explain why the effective use of questioning strategies matters;
Classify and sequence questions strategically;
Identify probing strategies to ensure student mastery and understanding; and
Establish a joyful learning environment and culture in which students become curious and empowered inquirers.
